Use Car Buyer Didn't Register Title After Sale
My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: North Carolina

    Hello
I need some advice please. I recently sold a used car to a lady and her husband, i knew this couple very well I thought, we both attended the same church for years. Actually I have known her all of my life, when we exchanged money, I signed the title as did she. She had preceeded to tell me that she was a notary and that upon arriving home, she would notarize it, and then deliver it to the dmv.(I didnt realize a then a notary is not supposed to notarize their own signature.) So I trusted her (Big Mistake), and now about 4 mos later they are seperated and living apart, he has the car, she has the title, they are both tied up with lawyers as far as assets, My name is on the title, and hers, but it was never notarized, I would love to get this finished and out of my name, because someone could drive it illegally, (I have the tags) and I am at risk, I get no cooperation from either of them. Please help.

Contact your insurance company to see if you should be maintaining coverage on the vehicle to protect yourself. And contact the DMV to see if there's something you can file that reflects that the car has been sold, but that the buyer has yet to register the title.

Yes, my insurance company recommended I keep liability, so I still have it on the vehicle, there is an affidavit that I could fill out to release my name with the dmv, but the only problem is the title was not notarized and the dmv of my state told me if i filled out the affidavit without a notarized title, it would be some kind of fraud. I trusted way too much and didnt know enough about title transfers when I did this.
    thanks for your help

Go to the DMV and get a duplicate title. Then get with the lady and have it filled out correctly. Get a separate bill of sale notarized also. Not sure about NC but most states have a separate form.

Thats the problem, the lady is not going to help me in any way, she has quit responding to any calls or anything, all she would have to do is meet me at dmv and we could get this notarized, but will not, that is what I am up against

Send her and her husband a certified letter stating that the vehcile is still legally titled in your name and you are going to have it picked up unless she properly files the change of title.
