    scared :(
Shoplifting at Lord and Taylor in Virginia
I was just caught shoplifting an umbrella worth $20 at Lord and Taylor just yesterday night. The lady stopped me right when I walked out of the door and escorted me to the back. I am not a criminal and I have never done anything like this before in my life.. I feel so guilty right now that I cant sleep or do anything. I am 19 years old and I kept asking the security lady whehter she was going to tell my parents and she said that since I am over 18, she would not. I asked if it would go on my permanent record and she said no, it would only go on lord and taylor record & maybe Macys. I signed some forms. I signed a civil demand form and I paid for it on the spot. It was $50. I also signed a trespassing form saying that I cant go back to Lord and Taylor for 2 years. She said that she would have to call the cops on me if she ever saw me back in there again. My question is.. Will I be receiving a letter in the mail about anything about the shoplifting even after I paid for the civil demand? I didnt tell anyone about this and I will be going back to college so I dont want any mail to get to my mom. Can I still get prosecuted even if there were no police involved? THe lady was really nice and said since I cooperated and I didnt deny anything that she wasnt going to call the police. I just have that guilty feeling inside me and I hate it and right now, I just know I made a mistake and its a mistake that I will never make ever agin. Please somebody help answer my questions! I would really really really appreciate it! :(

No you should not get any letter since you paid. L&T has until the sttute of limitations runs out to file criminal charges that should be anywhere from one to two years

    Hi
THank you so much for the quick reply. What do you mean that lord and taylor has statue of limitation. Does that mean that I can still be charged 1-2 years from now?

Yes thats exactly what I mean. However the likihood of that is almost zero. Unless you violate ban or commit another theft from one of their stores

You are a great help. Thank you so much! Should I be worried about anything now? I know i made a mistake and I will never ever do this again. Lesson learned.

No you should have no worries at this point. There is no reason for L&T to pursue this any further

Thanks again for your help. I just keep replaying the incident over and over again. I just need to avoid Lord and Taylor for 2 years now. I kind of dont want to go back to that mall again. Just a curious question, are you a lawyer?

Sharing: What if they did? That wont mean they will or will not with you. In most cases if Police are not called right away they rarely file criminal charges. Pay the Civil Demand and put this behind you
