Interstate Compact
My question involves criminal law for the state of: CALIFORNIA
I am currently on formal probation for Insurance Fraud. I have been on it for 1yr and was told that if my fines were paid off by the end of 18 mths that they would drop my conviction from a felony to a misdemeanor.
Now the problem I have is I am wanting and needing to move out of state. I want to move to Illinois for work and to put my life back together. But Illinois so far say they won't take my case because I have no immediate family there. Anyone ever heard of this? Is there any other way around this formality to try and put my life back on track. We are expecting a baby in May and want to get moved prior to Winter. We also can't afford California, Both of us lost our jobs here, and we are close to losing our house. Is any of this taken into account by probation depts.

Re: Interstate Compact
Do you have an interview? Or a formal job offer? Or are you simply hoping to find work in Illinois?
I suspect a formal job offer might be considered, but with no other ties to the state, you've got a tough row to hoe.
Have you spoken with your attorney about this?

Re: Interstate Compact
I'm pretty much in the same place as you.. I feel ya.. I lost my job and my gf is due november and I'm behind on payments because all of this.. the only way to pay them would be move to va for work but they won't let me because I owe.. a catch 22 I suppose..
It's not just family it's a number of things.. ask for a travel permit and head to Ill. and get hired then come back and tell them you'll have more stability if you can move and get a transfer.. That's what I would do if I didn't owe and were you..
