Emancipation in Oregon

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Oregon



I don't have any super good reason to become emancipated, I'm just dying for "freedom" and my independence.
I've lived on the street multiple times (by choice, I have awesome parents) and at one point ended up backpacking though the middle of nowhere leaning to survive off sticks and berries (it was a therapy thing, my mommy thought it might straighten me out.)
So what I'm saying is I have some great survival skills, and I'm really good at handeling most situations.
I'm freegan, so I don't pay for any kind of food.
I know at least three friends that have a room I could rent.
I'm pretty darn intelligent.
And I'm 16, which makes me old enough to qualify.

The only factors I worry about are:
I havn't gotten my GED yet.
My parents are totaly against it.
And I don't have a job.

(I expect I'll have my GED and hopefull a job by the end of September.)




Here are some questions I'd love some answers for:
Do you need to have had a steady job for at least 6 months?
Do your parents have a lot of power when making the final decision?
How long is the process usually?
Does it matter that I've had a couple runaway reports the past month or two?
If you know what the qualifications are when petitioning for emancipation in Oregon, that would be really great to know as well.




There's probably more, but it's late and I'm having trouble remembering all of 'em.

well I dont have any advice on the whole legal issue, but I think you are making a mistake! I am 21 and just one year has seperated my thoughts. I was 18 and thought I knew everything, by 19 I found out I was completely wrong and have A LOT of different views now. No matter what you think, you are NOT grown up at 16.

You don't have a chance in the world of being emancipated. Emancipation is extremely rare and only happens when there is a NEED for emancipation. Just wanting "freedom" isn't even close to a valid need.

I honestly don't think I'm grown up enough to live on my own and be succesful, there are just some decissions I've been making and plan to continue making that I don't think my parents deserve to be responsible for.

Do you really need a good excuse to get emancipated, don't you just need to prove that you're responsible enough?

No, that's not even remotely true. Unless you can show the judge a valid reason why you will be harmed if you are NOT emancipated, you don't have a chance in hell.

If you don't think yourself that you are grown up enough to live on your own, that right there is a reason to deny your petition.
