    Reckless driving charge in michigan
My 23 year old son was passing a car in Michigan, and he says the other car sped up, but either way he didn't leave enough room before he got back over and hit the other car. This seems like a strong charge for an accident. Does anyone know if its worth fighting or what the standard fine is? I know the statute calls for up to 93 days in jail or $500.00 or both. Any advice would be appriciated. Thanks, Alma

It's definitely worth fighting. You can often get a reckless charge reduced to a civil infraction. (Although the facts of the case, including whether there were any injuries, can affect that.)

    Outcome
We got a lawyer and the ticket was lowered to driving to close to another vehicle.(I don't know why they didn't just say tailgating or something.) The lawyer said it was about 2 points. The fine was $180.00 including court costs. It was well worth the fight. Thanks again for the advice, Alma
