Arrest Warrant in Indiana
My question involves an arrest warrant from the State of: INDIANA
I just found out yesterday that there is a warrant for my arrest. I'm not sure if it's for check deception or failure to appear.
A year ago I wrote a $40 check that bounced. In December I filed bankruptcy. My bankruptcy included some collections agencies collecting on bad checks (I realize these are criminal acts but since they were being handled via collection agencies, they were included).
The $40 check, however, was handled through the county prosecutor's office. In late May of this year I received a summons to report to court for the $40 check. I was told my bankruptcy attorney to turn the summons over to them to handle. AFTER the court date I got a call from my bankruptcy law firm saying that my attorney had quit, and that they couldn't help me with the summons because it was a criminal matter.
Now there is a warrant for my arrest. I have no idea what to do. I was told I can show up at 8 am and ask to be added to the docket. Does this mean I'll be arrested? The people on the phone were very rude and impatient. I want to take care of this but I dont have a lot of money. Will there be fines?
Please help ASAP.
Re: Arrest Warrant in Indiana
It is most likely failure to appear.
Yes, there will be fines. You'll also need to explain yourself to the judge - when the court says "Frog", you JUMP. Unless you were in the hospital in a life threatening coma, you're going to have fines and possibly jail time.
