My question involves criminal law for the state of: illinois
If no police were called in the shoplifiting case and the person had to sign two pieces of paper (one with personal info so they know where to mail the civil demand to and how to recognize you and another stating that you could be entered into choice point and a civil demand can be mailed) will the store at a later date press charges or will it be just the civil demand? Also what is the estimate for the civil demand...the item was a 80 dollar pair of shoes on clearance for 30...i know stupid its not as if we would have said not if she wanted the shoes. If you are a TJMaxx employee or LP please help a concerned mother. I want to make things right as best as possible and I don't want my daughter to have a record for life. She is getting the help she needs and I don't want her to be punished for a lifetime. I want to know if there will be a criminal record or any record of the event at a later date. Also how long after will the civil demand be received in the mail?
