What Rights Do You Get After Establishing Paternity
My question involves paternity law for the State of: illinois
Im 17 & currently pregnant. The father of my child has his priorities fixed to the point where his child does not come first. He's not helping and is unemployed. He dedicates himself to play football and doesn't struggle to look for a job. I have a boyfriend who is willing to take paternal rights. Can me & him just sign the Paternity Acknowledgement Papers? Would that give him rights? I'm not looking for help from the biological father of my baby, I exxpect what i know I'll get from him...NOTHING! I just want him out!

LORD, I wish I'd seen this question first!
Okay, you're 17, pregnant, not with the father, and you have a short-term boyfriend who wants to claim the child??
DO NOT DO THAT!!! First, it's fraud. Second, your boyfriend is much too young to realize what he's signing up for. What if you break up in 6 months, a year, 2 years? He will be responsible for child support for someone else's child for the next 18 years!
Here's what you should do: After your baby is born, go to your local Child Support Office and open a case. Give the correct name for the father. The office will help to establish paternity and an order for child support. Just because the father isn't involved, doesn't mean that he doesn't have an obligation to support the child.
