Consequences on Siblings in a Emancipation Case
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: West Virgina; I was thinking lately about getting emancipated from my mother. I just turned 17 and I take care of myself (have a job, car, insurance) but I still live in her home. She told me that if I tried to leave she would press runaway charges, because she wants me home to watch my younger brother while she is at work. She also mentally abuses me and sometimes physically but she only does it to me and not to my brother at all.
Is there any way for me to get emancipated without having my brother's safety in my mother's custody getting questioned; or should I just wait another year?
Thanks in advance.
Re: Consequences on Siblings in a Emancipation Case
You will be emancipated when three things happen:
You turn 18 years old
You get a full-time job
and
You support yourself 100%.
