Re: I Shoplifted at Kohls
I was in the same position as you about a month ago. I shoplifted at Kohls and got caught and am 17. But I was alone. The amount added up to be a little less than 80. I went through the same things you did. They told me that I MAY reseive a letter asking for money, which is called a civil demand. The LP officers should have given you a paper explaining it. After that incident, I received a letter 3 weeks after, with the charges being 200. So no worries! Just pay if off when you get the letter.
And you can't work at retail stores anymore.
Re: I Shoplifted at Kohls
so most likely I'll be charged around 400 dollars? or more?
Re: I Shoplifted at Kohls
oh and how will this affect me in the long run?. as far as criminal records or trying to get a job? ah I'm so scared.

It won't that's why your *friend* had you hold the bag. As a minor child your court record will be sealed when you become and adult.
Re: I Shoplifted at Kohls
You won't be able to work in any retail stores. The charges can go up to 500 dollars. Just pay the civil demand when it comes.
Re: I Shoplifted at Kohls
There is NOTHING saying you can't work in retail unless you have a criminal record as a product of conviction. If you want to apply, go ahead, it only asks if you have convictions. These aren't great jobs to begin with, they're not overly picky without proof of wrongdoing.
Re: I Shoplifted at Kohls
True however the retailer would not be very wise to hire a known shoplifter. The retail theft database helps retailers (who subscribe) weed thieves as potential employees
