17 yr old caught w/ $20 from Walmart in Virginia
I am 17 was caught taking $20 merchandise from Walmart. I am clean good student, active in school community...what will happen in VA? I had to sign the "banned from Walmart" for 1 year. Do I need a lawyer? Is there a chance I can get this gone?

    Virginia Juvenile Charge - Shoplifting
It would be my understanding that in Virginia, as you are 17, you are charged as a juvenile. Is that correct?

    Juvenile Criminal Conviction in Virginia
You certainly should consider talking to a local lawyer about your situation.

In Virginia, juvenile criminal proceedings are generally confidential, meaning there won't be a public record of a shoplifting conviction. If you stay out of trouble until you are 24, your juvenile record should be automatically expunged.

If this is your first time in trouble, you're probably looking at some combination of a fine, probation and community service.

went to court, got first offenders, 25 hours community service, and if stay out of trouble will be erased Sept 6, 2006. Judge said at this time he will not enter guilty plea, wait till sept 6. Does that mean it is not there? only shows up if I get into more trouble?
