14 Years Old and Shoplifted $150
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Houston, TEXAS

I was caught shoplifting $150 worth of stuff at Urban Outfitters. (The policy at the store is that if its $75+, they press charges. Originally they were just going to let me go home with my parents and ban me from the store for 3 years.) I was arrested and had my fingerprints and picture taken. They said that they would contact us about a court date and the consequences would be probation or community service or both, plus the restitution.

The police officer in the car I was in said "Don't worry, you didn't kill anyone...everything will be okay, this won't affect anything you do in the future."
I'm not sure this is true because my family told me a lot differently, and how it would effect any job I want before I'm an adult, and everything from that to financial aid for college.
Is there any way I can get these charges cleared when I go to court? Is there anything I can do to make this situation better?

I obviously regret this in every way, and I don't know why I did it, but it was the worst experience of my life and nothing like this will happen again.

If you could help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Your family needs to get you a lawyer if you're looking to get this all taken care of without going to court.

S/he may be able to negotiate an out of court settlement for you, but don't get your hopes up too high on that. I believe it is UO's corporate policy to prosecute.

You may be able to get diversion and probation.
