    Name Change for My Four-Year-Old
My question involves name change laws in the State of: Florida
My son just turned four. When he was born i gave him his biological father's last name. Now his father hasn't been in my son's life since he was two weeks old. He was abusive both physically and verbally so I left. I've already tried to put him on child support but wasn't able to locate him. Now I've been in a serious relationship the past 3 yrs. I would like to change his last name to my last name. Even if I marry my significant other, I don't plan on changing my last name. What problems am I going to run into? And what steps do I have to take to change my son's last name? Thanks

The part of the statute concerning minors is at the bottom of the page in this link:
    http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/...n%2007#0068.07

The father will have to be served notice, either personally or through publication if he can't be located.

The forms are here, also at the bottom of the page:
