What Does a Diversion Program Mean for My Future
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
    Crime took place at: Sears
    Got caught at: Mall

I'm pretty sure it's retail fraud 3rd degree for me. Not too sure of the merchandise total. Somewhere around $100. They didn't really tell me much and the things they did tell me weren't really something you'd want to remember. I'm 16 and got driven to the police station. This is my first offense ever.

They told me that Sears will send a fee from their attorney and a youth assistance program will contact me. I know nothing beyond that.

What exactly does this mean? Should I be checking the yes box on the police arrest question from now on? What of my record and job opportunities?

They did take my photo and fingerprints, where will these end up? I'm not to return to the mall and Sears for how long?

I am not being sent to court as far as I know, that's where the youth assistance kicks in.

Anybody have any ideas? I really wish I'd been in the state of mind to ask questions but shock was easy at the time. A little advice would be nice.

Thank you for everyone that takes the time to respond.

You need to get a criminal offense attorney or wait until you go to youth assistance.
No one here has a crystal ball to tell you what they will do to you. Your photo and fingerprints become part of your arrest record.
You SHOULD NOT go back to the mall or sears or they can arrest you for trespassing.
Your also likely to end up on probation/community service.
