Getting a Last Chance for Keeping a Green Card
Hi there.. i have a question, lets say that someone who has a green card was outside the united states for longer than 2 years (with no re-entry) and now needs to enter the us and complete studies work and live there.
would they (on borders) give a last chance or something like this: "From now on, you should stay in the united states."
or the green card will be taken automatically??
Thanks in advance
Re: Getting a Last Chance for Keeping Green Card?
If you have been out of the US for longer than one year with no re-entry and without having filed form I-131 (for a re-entry permit) prior to leaving, your green card is considered to have been abandoned, and you'll have to start all over again.
You MIGHT be able to apply as a special immigrant, a returning permanent resident, but prevailing in such a case is very, very rare.

Well actually its not for me its for a friend .. anyways
Is he still eligible to get a new one as he was originally? just because he had a green card before? or the people who gave him the green card at the first place (i guess his parents) should start a new one for him??
Thanks for the answer
Re: Getting a Last Chance for Keeping Green Card?
Not being familiar with your friend's situation, I could hardly guess at his eligibility.
He'll need to go to the consulate in his area and see what he needs to do about applying for a new green card, and a lawyer would not be a bad idea.

Thanks for your reply! .. just one final question i hope you can answer:
Is there any kind of forms or paper work which are concerned with people who had a green card and got it abandoned? (And if there is something like this .. how long does it usually take to get a new one?)
