Possible to Be Arrested After Making a Safe Getaway?
For some totally ridiculous and asinine reason I spontaneously decided to steal an item just over $100 in value from a large dept. store today in Boston, MA. It's my first time doing ANYTHING remotely illegal. I am not from Boston, I'm staying here for the summer.
Anyways, I made it out of the store without any hitches or problems whatsoever. Chances are, though, that the employees will notice the items absence after awhile, and realize it was stolen.
At that juncture, what happens? Will they review camera footage to catch a glimpse of me? If so, and they capture an image of my face, will they run a records check even though I have no previous criminal record? Will checks like that even extend outside of police records, or do they cover things like driver's licenses? Is it even conceivable that their search would run outside of MA into my home state? If they positively identify me through camera footage and an ID match, would they actually put out a warrant or something?
You can see I'm being rather paranoid, but I really do want to know what sort of risks I've gotten myself into. I can't believe I was so stupid.

Even if an employee notices missing item they wont know when it was taken. The likihood they will ask their Loss Prevention team to watch hours and hours of video is slim at best. Now if you were seen and a license plate was jotted down you could be getting a visit in the future by Police

It's in the middle of downtown, I actually went out the lower level entrance to the store directly into a subway station and took the metro out of the area. Is that good?

First off, it's not good that you stole an item. However, it's less likely they will find/look for the person who took the item per your last post.

The likelyhood of you getting caught would be slim, since they did not come after you as soon as you left, they probably dont know it's missing yet, when they do it's not like they are gonna know what day what time and who stole it, trust me on this. if you were caught on camera all they will have is a picture it's not like they do a full out hard-core investagation if it's only over $100. They'll pretty much just cut there losses except defeat and try to tighten there security and call all the staff in for a meeting on how to catch shoplifters. Been there done that(the whole staff meeting things) If you didn't drive you really have no worry because normally a guy will come out and write down ur plates, don't be so paranoid.
