    Accused of Sexual Harassment
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: NJ

I was under investigation for 2 weeks until they finally terminated me, not because of the sexual harassment complaint by a customer, but for theft. Yes, I work for a department store. I had to write my statement of the whole thing, and I was told that it was completely different from his statement.

    I know it's confusing.

Anyway, there was no police involved whatsoever. I got a letter from a lawfirm demanding me to pay the amount of the merchandise. That I can take care of, but what's bugging me is when I got the call from the HR Manager. She said that based from "theft", the investigation is finished -- the sexual harassment. So, it's been close to a month, is the sexual harassment investigation really over? was it forwarded to the police? and they were mentioning that the customer who complained is 17 years old. BTW, I did not DO ANYTHING to this person whatsoever. Should I get a lawyer??

It appears that you were terminated for theft, which you don't deny. It's not clear what the theft has to do with sexual harassment allegation. But your employer told you the investigation of the allegation was over. Why do you think it would have been turned over to the police? Given that your employer took no action against you because of the allegation and fired you for theft, I'm not sure why you are worried about the sexual harassment allegation.

Since you have been terminated for theft & was told the sexual harassment investigation was therefore over, I agree with mitousmom that you should stop worrying about any further action.

You need to move on & look for other employment.
