In the state of New Jersey, possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to a $1000 fine.

As a first offender, you're unlikely to get more than a fine and probation.

Expungement/seal of records is not automatic in New Jersey, you'll need to apply for an expungement once you turn 18.

Sure. As a minor you can be remanded into state custody until you age out of the system. It's exceptionally unlikely to happen, but it's within the realm of possibility. It's far more likely that you would end up on some form of probation, consistent with how the juvenile court assesses your needs.

Common? Every case is different. It's possible.

Not anymore, at least for the moment.

    Nope!
Your parent(s) also have to be with you when charged in juvie court. It would be wise to retain a lawyer to help your odds of coming out of this with a clean record.
