Virginia Emancipation Law

Hi, I'm 16 and I am currently living in Virginia. I've been through alot in my life and I think its best if i got emancipated, but i doubt my mom will sign the consent form so i don't know what 2 do. My mom and I really don't get along and we are constantly fussing or fighting. I love her and I know that I only get one mother but I'm tired of feeling like I don't deserve to live. Well if you have any information on the Emancipation Law please send me a note.

Virginia's emancipation law provides:

Any minor who has reached his sixteenth birthday and is residing in this Commonwealth, or any parent or guardian of such minor, may petition the juvenile and domestic relations district court for the county or city in which either the minor or his parents or guardian resides for a determination that the minor named in the petition be emancipated. The petition shall contain, in addition to the information required by § 16.1-262, the gender of the minor and, if the petitioner is not the minor, the name of the petitioner and the relationship of the petitioner to the minor.

There does not appear to be a requirement of parental consent.

would I need an attorney or lawyer to be emancipated? what exactly would I need besides documentation of birth, etc. ?

You could start your own thread rather than jumping onto a 5 year old one.

A means to support yourself would be a start.
