Temporary Work Disqualifies Me?
My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
I have been laid off for the past three months and have been receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits as I search for a job. Now the company I had worked for asked me to come in for two weeks to help fill in for the office manager while she goes on vacation. What are my options as far as continuation of my unemployment benefits. Must I accept this two week work under the definition of "suitable work"? If I must accept this temporary work, will I be no longer be eligible for unemployment and re-start the unemployment claim application process for unemployment benefits after this two week assignment is over? Or can I refuse?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Temporary Work Disqualifies Me?
While I have no direct experience in CA, in every state with which I do have experience, you would take the temporary job; you would tell the state that you were working for those two weeks, and you would reopen your claim at the end of the two weeks. It would not disqualify you; in fact, at least in my state it can extend your claim. It might take a little longer than usual for the first check after your claim is reopened, but taking the temp job cannot hurt you and may help you.
