Reckless Driving In Minnesota, Washington County
My question involves a reckless driving ticket from the State of: Minnesota
Just yesterday I got cited for reckless driving and no motorcycle endorsement. I tried to pass a car on the shoulder, lose control, hit a curb and wipe out. Yeah it's stupid what I did, I am still in a pain. I am a pretty new motorcycle rider, its only been about two weeks. The time this happened was around 8:30ish and the sun was still out. I have a motorcycle permit so I could ride anytime before night time.
One of the cars I tried to pass called the cops and they arrived in about 10-15 minutes. My motorcycle wouldn't start so I stayed there until the cops arrived. They cited me for reckless and no motorcycle endorsement at the time of around 9:20 and it was dark. He ask me why I was riding when it was dark and I said when the accident happened there was still light out, but he still cited me for the no motorcycle endorsement.
I know that these are pretty serious offenses. My insurance is high enough with my wifes tickets. My question is what are the general attorney fees for these offenses. Is is possible to get these charges lessen or dropped? And one more, does anyone know a good MN traffic law attorney? Thank you in advance for the replies and I love this site.
Re: Reckless Driving In Minnesota, Washington County
You should be able to document the time of sunset on the date of the ticket, as well as the time of the 911 call, to establish that the accident occurred in daylight hours. But beating the "no endorsement" part of the ticket isn't going to help you much with your insurance if you're convicted of reckless driving.
I suggest calling some area law offices to get a sense of what lawyers in your community charge for reckless driving ticket defense. Your state's bar association offers a lawyer referral service.
