Options for Emancipation at Age 17 in Oregon
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Oregon
My mother is a single mom, can barely afford to buy milk regularly, let alone my and my two siblings, and that causes a lot of contension in my house. I'm 16, turning 17 this September, and I need to know if I can get emancipated for the reasons that I have. I'm not being beaten; I have gotten hit before and my mother thinks its perfectly okay to do so; I'm not pregnant or anything like that, but everyday I hear from my two siblings that they wish I were gone, and that they hate me, and my mother is ALWAYS just yelling at me. There is never a day me and my mother don't get in fights, and usually it't just me keeping to myself.
I want to live in Texas where I used to live, and go to school there and just have a life down there. I want to go to college down there, and if I was a resident there, it would be a lot cheaper, so that's a main reason why I want to live there, but my mother will not let me go under any circumstances unless I am legally seperated from her. If I am on my own, I would get 800 dollars social security until I graduate highschool, which would be until I turn 19. I just basically need to know my options because my mother has 'given me permission to leave' but she wants to not be liable for anything I might do.
Which would mean that I would need to get emancipated, and I'm just kinda confused on what I should do because I am treated pretty badly at home and I want to see what is possible for me to get out of this situation.
Re: 17 in Two Months, Need to Know My Options for Emancipation in Oregon
No judge in any jurisdiction is going to emancipate a child that plans to support themselves on welfare and/or government assistance.
If you want to be emancipated, you will be expected to financially, scholastically and emotionally care for yourself.
You will also need a valid reason for emancipation. Fighting with your parents and wanting to move to Texas does not satisfy that standard.
