debt filed that was not owed by my father in law
My father in law's estate has been pretty simple except for this one problem. He had alzheimers and we had a problem with a woman in the neighborhood that was taking advantage of him..especially with money. We did file a police report but could prove nothing. When we moved him from his home she persisted in calling us claiming that he owed her 350 dollars...that she had been cleaning his house (his home was filthy) and her calls took a threatening tone. We suspect this woman of having stolen things in the home but have no proof. It would be much easier to pay her the money...she has put the word out that she will sue for the money and hold the estate closing up as long as possible. Because of the things she has done to the family....the personal effects that were removed from the home, etc. I just don't want to give her this money out of principal....I feel she so dishonered my father in law when he was unable to think clearly. If this goes to court I know it will cost far beyond the 350 dollars and I suspect this is what she wants.....suggestions????? Help????

(Probably) False Claim of Money Owed
Possibility: Offer her $100 as payment in full, and see if she takes it. Get a signed receipt.
