Marijuana Possession
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
i got pulled over for running a red light in clinton twp.
the officer asked me if i had any drugs in my car. i told him yes. so he searched it and found some weed. it was about 2 grams worth.
after talking to me for a bit he wrote me the misdemeanor and let me go since i "co-operated".
this is my first offense. i have no previous criminal record or traffic violation.
the court i am going to is the 41b district court.
i am laid off right now so i dont have any money,
they are giving me a court appointed lawyer.
i am wondering what i can do. i do not want to do any jail time. and im afraid i can't pay a large fine at this moment.

Re: Marijuana Possesion
In the state of Michigan, the maximum penalty is a year in jail and/or $2000 fine.
That's the maximum. First offenders rarely get the maximum. Rather, they're usually given a conditional release - essentially, probation.
In Michigan, successful completion of a conditional release gets the charge dropped from your record.
