My Rights when Renting a Room in a House
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: District of Columbia
I am renting a room in a house from a woman who has a lease agreement with the owner of the house. The owner lives in the basement and we live upstairs in the rest of the house. There are many issues going on here, but I specifically want to know about the legality of my landlord, the woman that has the lease agreement with the owner, renting out her room as a bed and breakfast and staying in the living room.
There was a third housemate and last week she and I found out that our landlord rented out her room for a few days and said nothing to either of us about it until the last minute when I was informed that she was having houseguests. The 3rd housemate ran into the women renting the room and they told her that they were renting the room in front of the landlord. Because the landlord did this without our knowledge and we did not have functioning locks on our doors, the 3rd housemate and I took our concerns to the owner of the house. He told us that his lease agreement with her is simple and does not say anything about subletting the rooms. He knows about her subletting to me and the 3rd housemate and is fine with that, but he was not ok that she was renting out her room for a few days at a time. He called her and told her that this is not a boarding house and not to do that. She was not very happy and took out her anger on me and the other housemate which is a separate legal issue that I am dealing with.
Today I found her ad on Craigslist specifically calling our house a Bed and Breakfast and advertising her room for rent until Aug 20. I had no prior knowledge of this. If she rents out the room, she sleeps in the living room. Is this legal, can she do this?
If I could move out I would, I only have one month left and do not have the funds to move to another place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

By making waves you are putting yourself in a position to be asked to leave.

Tell the owner.
What is it that you hope to accomplish in the next month, assuming you're planning on moving at the end of your lease?
