    When is Harassment at Work Illega;
    My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: New Jersey

    I was being tormented to the point of feeling like banging my head against a wall...and often times to the point of tears. She would do this once every few weeks. I finally confronted her and ended up having my job threatened, as well as her telling me I was no longer allowed to have fun at work or even to speak to anyone about anything that wasn't work related. She also told the Manager that I was filing harassment charges against her and that she wanted me disciplined for it. Now, is this not harassment....I spoke to an EEOE lady and barely started my story before she told me that it wasn't discrimination...Is harassment only harassment if it involves discrimination such as age, nationality or even gender?:wallbang:

    Re: Harassment
    It is only ILLEGAL harassment (or discrimination) if it revolves around race, religion, national origin, or another characteristic protected by Federal or state law.

    However, it does not have to be illegal harassment (or discrimination) for an employer to discipline you (or her) for it.
