16 Year Old Runaway in North Carolina
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: North Carolina
I reported my daughter as a runaway 5/23. She is staying with a family close to where I live. She has stated that she will runaway again if she is made to come home. I talked to Juvenile services here and because she is 16 I was told that they would only hold her in detention for one night and that she would be released back to me. If she was to runaway again the same process would happen. I was even told to think about giving the family she is with the ok for her to say with them until I can get her father or some other relative to take her. Could I be charged with neglect for letting her stay with this family and something happens to her?

You need to call the supervisor of whomever you talked to.

I would further seek charges against whoever is harboring her

It's not neglect to give your child permission to stay in a safe, appropriate home environment. I don't know whether the place she wants to stay meets that measure.
