False Charge of Shoplifting in Trollhatten, sweden
My question involves criminal law for the state of:

This happened on 22nd may 2008, I went to a supermarket very near to my home place.I had my own bags in which I carry my stuffs, and I put them in trolley.
When i finished shopping that time i had 2 stuffs in my hand, rest in bags and went straight to payment counters, where I found myself standing in que at the last.It was taking a lot time so I started listening to music from my mp3 player.Suddenly my number came, moved forward ,put those 2 stuffs on the moving belt ,counter-lady gave me bill (32 Swedish Krona) payed it cash ,took the bill, and got out of the payment counter row with just bill in hand while njoying music simultaneously, moved further with trolley ,stood near a magzine section.

In seconds that counter-lady called me, when I din listen(coz of my ****ing ear phones) she came back to me, said "you forgot these 2 stuffs', I turned around and seeing those 2 stuffs and bags (with stuff worth 108 SEK) in trolley,i told to myself m ****ed now.

She asked me to open my bags and then without even listening to me she called one guy, they took me into isolation, called police.
they asked me about the matter, and asked do I admit its shoplifting,
i was nervous and scared too, just said that I forgot to pay for those stuffs and its not shoplifting.

Now, its gonna be 1 month since then.
there's been 1 police hearing already few days back.
Where I told them exactly the same what happened that I was
absent minded and it was not my fault.

they said you will hear about this soon.
Now ,I am in lot of depression as I am not a citizen of Sweden, just here for 2 months of training and will return back to India on 15th july.
And I have no idea what punishment or penalty am gonna suffer,
also I have very less money to pay fine to them.

please tell me now how much fine they gonna impose on me and
what shud i be doing now.

    thnks in advance.

Sweden, in the past few years, has taken a tougher stance towards petty theft. What you described is considered petty theft in Sweden and can result in a fine and imprisionment for a period of up to 6 months.

Petty theft is considered a "day-crime" (Swedish terms) and the lowest amount for a "day-crime" is four hundred and fifty (450) SEK. Here's the kicker - if you fail to pay the fine you will very likely be sentenced to imprisionment for a fourteen (14) day period.
