Caught Shoplifting At Macy's, First Offense
My question involves criminal law for the state of: OHIO

I was caught shoplifting at Macy's two days ago. It was a $49 dress. I was stopped by the Loss Prevention Department as I was leaving the store. I was taken to a private room and detained. The LPD team was harsh when questioning me. The police department was called and an officer was sent to file a police report. I was told that I will receive a civil demand letter in the mail in the next 2 weeks. I was also told that I will receive a letter with a court date. This is my first offense and I have a clean record. What is my next step and what punishment could I receive? I live in Ohio and am 19 years old. Could I recieve jail time? I am so nervous about losing my job due to being sent to jail. I have no idea what to do in this situation. If anyone has experienced this or knows what could/will happen, please help. I know I made a huge mistake and I regret it deeply.

Jail is very unlikley but you should consult a criminal defense Attorney and discuss your plea options
