Criminal Trespassing And Possible Felony Theft In Alaska
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Alaska

Well one night a little over a month ago me and a buddy were driving around and came across a lot full of junked cars (not typical in our small town) and a black eagle talon catches our eye so we roll over to take a look. Thing is such a piece has no engine and a complete mess inside. While we're looking at it a tow truck rolls up and asks us what we're doing. We tell him the talon caught our eye and he tells us all the cars in the lot are his, he owns them and is waiting for the "dump day" where he takes all these cars in to be crushed and gets paid per car. He then tells us we can take all the parts we want from anything as long as it isn't engine parts or tires so he can tow them to the dump on the weekend.

So me and my friend take a look around the lot and realize we can get some parts and sell them. We run to my place get some tools and flashlights to get some free parts. There was a few 92-95 civics and we got parts like tail lights, speedos, mirrors etc...We come across two totaled tundras in the back and figure we can make some money out of these since they were pretty new (01-02) so we begin to take everything we can like the guy had told us: steering wheels, air bags, cd player, instrument clusters, you name it.

Well today I get a call from the local police department asking me to come down to the station for a minute. I'm like alright cool having no clue why. The only thing I could think of was getting pulled over a few days ago on a little 70cc dirtbike on the main road. Well I get to the station and the officer brings me in this room and throws a folder down and pulls out the two ebay ads we put up for a couple of the misc. tundra parts and I'm like oh geez. He then tells me that the tundras on the lot do not belong to the guy who told us we can take any part we wanted and the owners of the tundras want to press charges and its a felony and criminal trespassing He finds out my friend was with me because he called the tow truck guy confirming what I told him and so he then had me go back to my place get all the parts we had taken and bring them back with my friend. Once we get back to the station we unload the parts and the officer tries to tell us that the tow truck guy said we can only take parts off one black honda. First off there was no black honda anywhere on that lot and he deffinitely told us we can take any part we wanted off any car back there. If we had known the cars weren't his there's no way we would have touched or messed with them and even be in this situation, as far as we knew all those vehicles were being crushed and barged out of here as scrap metal.

So now I sit here wondering what is going to happen. I'm 23, never been in trouble with the law for ANYTHING, never even had a speeding ticket and now possibly facing felony charges for this tow truck douchebag telling us we can have whatever part in that lot. When we left the station the officer told us he better never see us down at the station again and we're too young to be in trouble with the law and blah blah and told us to get the cash ($125) from the one item we sold (Tundra ECU) and to keep it aside. It almost seemed as if the officer was trying to scare us into never doing anything like this again.

Sorry for such a long post and if its hard to read or follow, I'm a little stressed out thinking about this situation.

Looking for any insight on this situation...what is the worst that can happen? etc...

    Give back the money.

    You should be fine.

Next time someone says something too good to be true, realize that it probably is.

Thanks for the response, feel a little better about it. Still no call back from the cops and it has been 5 days since I was down at the police station talking with the cops and returning the items. I was expecting a call back that same day from the cop since the owner was coming to pick up the parts and deciding what he wanted to do. Should I still be worried? How long should something like this take? Do they have to inventory of the parts and do paperwork and things like that? Thanks again.
