My question involves name change laws in the State of: TN.
My mother, years ago (I was 7yrs old), legally had my name changed to her new husband. Although I have gone through 30+ years with this name, I have had desires to go back to my original last name/heritage. Is this possible? What is the process? What concerns should be considered? Have others done this? Thanks. Reference- birth certificate in LA.
An adult name change is pretty simple. Go to your local court clerk's office to ask where you can find the forms for an adult name change.

I would assume legal support is needed? If so, what type of legal specialty?

The only way you'll need an attorney is if you are legally disabled, or have a court appointed guardian. For those, you would need to have the guardian's and court's permission.
If you are a legal adult, without a guardian, you do not need anyone's permission and all you have to do is fill out the proper forms, file them with the court and the name change would be allowed.

How common do you think this is? This would also effect my wife and children. Anything else to consider for that?

From what I've seen, an adult name change is fairly common. You, and your wife will have to decide if you want to change everyone's names or not. If the children are all your's and your wife's you can both agree. However, if any of the children are from another relationship, the other parent's agreement will be needed.
