Assault By Contact

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas

What is assault by contact? A family member pressed charges against my daughter saying that she slapped him. She said that she pushed him in his chest when he got in her face. There was no witness to this act and there were no marks of either the slap/push. Does she need a lawyer? Will she have a record? Will she have to pay a fine? She is a student in another state so she will have to come back to Texas for her court date.
