Got caught shoplifting while on holiday.
    Hi.
Whilst we were on holiday an adult member of our party got caught shoplifting goods worth $5.
She was taken to the security office and forced to admit her guilt in order to be let go.
Now she has received a Civil Remedies notice of $470.
As she is now back safely in the UK she has no intentions of paying.
Does the US laws of civil recovery apply now she is home?

    Civil Demand Letter
The company can try to get a judgment against her in the U.S., and then try to enforce the judgment through the U.K. legal system; but it is unlikely that they would undertake that amount of time and expense over a $470 claim.

    Hi.
Although she admitted it whilst we were on holiday, she would have admitted to anything just to get out of the office.
She was not given the option of consulting a lawyer and no member of our party was allowed to be with her.
So can she now change her amittance of guilt to innocence on the the grounds that she was terrified and was not able to consult legal advice?
This might make them dismiss the civil penalty against her due to the hassle involved..
