    Caught Shoplifting at Target
    Good day,
I was cut shoplifting in target three weeks ago. I was taken into the office and i filled and signed some papers, the police was also called. Although no arrest was made, but the police got all my info and said that i will have a summons in two weeks. I just got a letter from target saying that i should pay some money twice the amount that i was cut it, if not civil actions will be taken against me.
I intend paying the money, but i am just confused and i want to know if the summons will still be sent from the court. If the summons is sent, will this case be in my records forever, this is my first time of ever doing something wrong, and i do not want this to spoil my records. What do you advice i do , should i get a lawyer, and how can i get a backgroungd check on myself.

    Shoplifting Charge
The civil demand you received has nothing to do with any criminal prosecution. As the police are involved, you will probably receive a summons at some point in the not-too-distant future.

If you are convicted of this offense and you are an adult, you will get a criminal record. (If you are a minor, the manner in which your record would be treated can vary by state.) You may wish to consult a local lawyer to see if there are any diversion programs or deferred sentencing options which can help you avoid a criminal record.
