    Frozen Account In New York
My question involves child support in the State of: New York

My bank account has been frozen since Feb. for past child support. The money is in there that I owe (they actually froze double what I owe). Why won't they just take out the money I owe and let me get the rest of my money. I called the state numerous times and they say that they sent paperwork to my bank to release the funds, hasn't happened yet. What can I do for the state to take what I owe and get back what is mine?? They want the money, they are holding it, so why not take it out?? I told them to as I'm not contesting what I owe.

Have you spoken to your bank to find out if they have recieved the release yet?

That would be your first step, to figure out if the problem is with the state, or the bank and go from there.

I've spoken to my bank and the state numerous times. The state claims that they sent out the release a couple of time, but the bank has never received one. I confirmed the right address that they sent it to. I've been told different things by the state each time I called (from supervisors no less) One claimed that she was faxing something to the bank as we spoke, called the bank 30 minutes later and nothing. Called the state back and another supervisor said that they were unable to fax things out. One thing after another.

You'll probably need to go into the CSE office in person to talk to the caseworker. Ask him/her to fax the release, and to give you a copy. For now that's about all you can do. If the caseworker refuses to fax with you present, let him/her know that you will be speaking to your lawmaker's office about the problem.
