I Had A Car Accident While Delivering A Pizza
My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Maryland

I hit this guy's car(a van)due to hydroplane(been raining all day).the damage on his end is on rear bumper on the driver's side.but my car had more damage(on front bumper, driver's side). The guy seemed fine and was smoking&walking around while waiting for police 2 come.police came&looked at it as a minor accident&didn't call an ambulance b/c we both told him we were fine and no one was injured;he didn't even write me a ticket. 6 mos after the accident my insurance called&told me that the guy whose car I hit had surgery in relation 2 the accident costing>100K.My policy limit is 20-25K.My insurance also told me I should contact the pizza company (one of the big 3) b/c I was on duty when it happened otherwise I could be responsible for the difference. What should I do now?Should I be concerned that my personal asset (my little saving&wife's)would be seized if I lose in court? The pizza company should pay for the difference if the guy could prove the surgery b/c of the accident, shouldn't it?

Did you contact the pizza company about the situation?

    What did they say?

Maybe, maybe not. That depends on the nature of your employment agreement with the company.

I worked for one of the national chains in college, and I know all of our drivers were required to sign a waiver absolving the company of all responsibility for any accident that happened on the clock.

You should consult with an attorney.

Many car ins. policies exclude coverage while a personal car is being used for "business" purposes. Is your ins. co. saying they will pay up to your policy limits - from your post it seems so but you would have to pay the difference.

Re the pizza co. being responsible for the difference, they *might* have liability protection for this type of activity to cover their exposure.

You need to talk to the pizza co. & also talk to an attorney.

That is probably against public policy and he should contact the pizza company and find out who their insurance company is.
