Ohio Marriage And Emancipation
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Ohio and Indiana
I am a 16 year old female looking to be emancipated so I can live with my boyfriend who will be 18 in a month. We have already got our budget and schedules planned out, so do not think we haven't thought this through. We have been planning this for two years, but now my mother will not let me move out.
She is financially struggling, but still insists that I have to stay with her, so I was looking into Ohio Emancipation Laws.
I have found that only a legal marriage will emancipate me so I now need some assistance in figuring out what processes I need to go through to get married in the state of Indiana while living in Ohio.
Please Help Me. I can not live here anymore. I will be getting my GED within the next month, so I will not have the obligations of school for a short while before I go into college. I need to get out of this house before I go insane and I certainly can't be here when I start college.
Re: Ohio Marriage And Emancipation
In ordered to get married in Ohio you need the consent of your parents and to go before a Judge.
Re: Ohio Marriage And Emancipation
Thank you... Now because he is in Indiana and I am in Ohio, How difficult is this going to be?
I am going to get my Mom's counselor to talk to her about giving me permission, so I can hopefully handle that. But will I need certain forms to marry in Indiana while being an Ohio citizen? (We are going to marry and live in Indiana we already have an apartment lined up.)
Re: Ohio Marriage And Emancipation
I am unsure if you can get married in Indiana as a minor while living in OHio so someone else will have to answer that.
But from looking you have to be 17 to get married in Indiana, still with Parental consent.
Also if you were to obtain consent for Ohio marriage it states that you have to obtain Marriage Counseling before so.
If your Dad is also around he will have to consent to it also. And I really don't think a counselor would try to talk your mom into approving you to get married. No matter how supportive the counselor may be of it, in the end its about your mom's choice.
Re: Ohio Marriage And Emancipation
There is NO state where you can get married, below the age of 18, without either parental permission, the permission of a court, or both.
