I was recently caught in Wisconsin for taking money from my employer.
-I was fired.
-They told me I was cooperative when they interviewed me/questioned me about the incident.
- I admitted to taking about $150 in cash/merchandise from the store. Although it was never more than a maximum of $10 at a time.
- I already agreed to pay the fine (when decided) along with restitution to the company.
-When they called in the Sheriff, he wrote me a citation for petty theft with a court date. Although they did not arrest me or "escort" me off site.
-this is my first offense for anything like this (I have a clean record)
I did write a "confession" (I guess you could call it), saying what I admitted to and that they did not harass or threaten me in any way.
Needless to day I am worried about this. I didn't even consider what could happen before I started doing this. I did apologize with the managers and like I said I was very cooperative with LP/Managers/sheriff. But I want to know what i should do from here. Should I be worried about going to jail? or is that a little too much to expect for something like petty theft? Also, should I try to find a public defender, or is this almost too small of a case for something like this?
Thanks to anyone that can help!!!
