Damage To Property By Breaking A Car Window
My question involves criminal law for the state of: illinois

i was charged with damage to property after this guy had his window broken and the cops came to my house and told my parents i needed to come to the station to talk to them about it. so i went to the station and the cop asks me about the window and i said i didn't do it then he just says ok you're being charged.

was this a rightful arrest when there was no proof and just the guys word on me doing it? the cops didnt even take my side of the story they only said "so tell me about the window" i said "idk i didnt do it" then after just that he told me i am being charged

so i was just wondering what are the chances to prove my self innocent and this guys chances to prove me guilty with no proof whatsoever? also how will this trial all work out, im guessing im gonna need a lawyer?

the guy came to my work talking shit earlier in the day i got off at 300 and the kid told the cops they saw me doing it at like 315 in my work uniform when this was not true whatsoever. i also am on supervision and a record with just drugs nothing like this. i am 18 years old

any answer to any of this will help and will be very appreciated.

When a witness says you committed a crime, the police can act on that report.

Unless you are stating that it is physically impossible for you to get from work to the place of the offense in fifteen minutes, or that witnesses can prove you change out of your work clothes before you left, having left work prior to having somebody see you, in work clothes, breaking a car window isn't exactly exculpatory.

so basically the only way i can prove innocent is if i have witnesses that say i was at home at 315 and had been changed out of my work uniform before leaving my house after work? whats the odds of me winning this and proving myself innocent?

also does me being on supervision already make this any worse even if i am innocent? should i get a lawyer now even though my court date is june 18 or wait and see what happens at the first court date?
