Four Year Old Medical Bill In Maryland
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Maryland
I just received a summons to appear for a medical bill that is over 4 years old.
Am i right in assuming that the SOL has passed ? And if so, how should I state this fact to the judge. Do I need to recite the code and its number ? And what would the code identification be ? Thank You

You may find information at this site helpful.

Also, I'm coming up with a three year SOL (from date of last activity). However, keep in mind the information that you read at the above site, may have extended the SOL.
Quote:
§ 5-101. Three-year limitation in general.
A civil action at law shall be filed within three years from the date it accrues unless another provision of the Code provides a different period of time within which an action shall be commenced.

Yes, from the link I provided it states:
Quote:
If you are contacted by a debt collector, do not admit that you owe the money or make arrangements to pay the debt if you believe the statute of limitations bars the creditor from filing suit. If you do admit the debt or make arrangements to pay, you may have just extended the statute of limitations for another 3 years.
Does that help?
