As you were told when you posted, laws are different in each state. It also depends on the facts of the offense and your record. Particularly if it's your first offense, but really whatever your circumstance, get a criminal defense lawyer and try to get the charge reduced (or see what other outcomes you might be able to pursue that will avoid a felony conviction).
i got charged with a felony shoplifting over 700.00
i had a clea record
i went to court had a privite lawyer
i got felony diversion
1 1/2 years supervised
1 1/2 unsupervised
1000.00 dollars fine
Which means nothing as we do not know your state or OP's
just to let everyone know
after going to court about 5 times, the judge give me 3 years probation which 1 1/2 of those was supervised 10.00 month i have 100.00 in court cost and 500,00 in fines
