Re: Target Parking Lot Cameras And Shoplifting
I personally know of several occasions in which a plate was written down and Police went to suspects home.

If a shoplifter parks their car a good distance from the store, but the store is still in site, it seems that the chances of obtaining a license plate number is low. And there does not appear to be one case on this site where a license plate number was taken down, using a video camera, after an act of shoplifting.
And your legal question is?

Sorry, I guess I left that part out. Will a store bother prosecuting a shoplifter if they are not apprehended in the store?
Yes.
If they can find any way of finding you, they will find you.
Re: Target Parking Lot Cameras And Shoplifting
The store wants it merchandise back and the thief caught so they (the retailer) may prosecute and/or seek Civil Demand. If they have your information count on a visit
Re: Target Parking Lot Cameras And Shoplifting
The arrest videos I have seem always show Target employees beating people up at the door. If they make it past the sidewalk, I've heard, they are let go.
Re: Target Parking Lot Cameras And Shoplifting
That is not the norm those are rogue LP's Target does not tolerate such behavior

I hate to tell you this but I have seen security cams that could read the writing on a paycheck at 100 yards. Reading a license plate from that distance would be a piece of cake.
Re: Target Parking Lot Cameras And Shoplifting
I worked at a Target for about a month, long enough to see how things work. They have these guys who wear a doofy looking dark security uniforms who are supposed to watch out for shoplifters, but they aren't allowed to chase them out of the store, and they aren't armed, or qualified to be armed, since they're only paid like $0.50 more per hour than the night stockers (my job there).
