Texas Laws governing Breaks on the job
Please help!! I am trying to find out if there are any laws in the state of Texas that state I have to take a 30 minute break? My "know it all" boss claims there are but all the listings I find say that some federal laws mandate breaks but not all states do. I do not take my break and leave at 1:00 pm instead of 1:30 pm. I work 5a-1p everyday. Is it my choice to take the break or his? Our company handbook just says it can't be added to beginning of shift. Any and all information on this topic would be appreciated.
    Thanks---Tiana

    Mandatory Break Laws
The Department of Labor offers resources on state employment laws - they indicate that there is no mandatory meal break law, and no mandatory rest break law, for adult employees in Texas.

It may nonetheless be possible for your employer to require a break as a condition of employment - but it does not appear that there is any law which mandates such a policy.
