Probation violation for leaving the state
My fiance violated his probation by leaving the state of Wisconsin. He is an addict that has never committed a violent crime. The only person he has hurt has been himself by loosing his freedom time and time again. Within the past year he has committed his life to Christ and has been drug-free, working, and contributing to the community thru ministry and service. His status was discoved in North Carolina before he could make his way back to Wisconsin. NC is holding him for Wisconsin. I have know idea what to expect. His underlying sentence is 7 years. We do plan to hire an attorney to help. Does anyone know what can be expected from Wisconsin courts? What is the legal attitudes there on violators? What is the likelyhood that they will come over 1000 miles to get him?

He will likely have his probation terminated for his violations, and be resentenced on the original charge. It is wise to use a criminal defense lawyer - that increases the chance that a court will listen to his explanation, and may help keep him out of prison.

He was picked up by a transporter bus to Wisconsin on Thanks Giving night. I have know Idea how long it will be before he arrives there or when he will be able to contact me. Wisconsin has a system called truth in sentencing, are you familiar with this? Does that mean he probation will automatically revoked?
