California Common Law

My question involves real estate located in the State of: California.

I don't know what to call this matter. I heard that in California, if you own a home, then if you live with another pennyless and opposite sex person, say girlfriend/ boyfriend, in your house for some years (7 years?) this person can claim the interest of your equity. Yes? No?

If the answer is YES:
However, if this pennyless person committed a marriage fraud especially on your back, you cannot tell the law and the USCIS that his/her marriage is bigamy and is not valid for the purpose of the green card!!!

Common law marriage does not exist in California. Hasn't in probably 40 years.
