Shoplifting In NYC
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
so i was at uniqlo with my friend and he was showin me how to shoplift. i took about $105 worth of clothes while my friend took about $150 worth of clothes. they caught us as we were leaving the store and wrote us up, taking picturres of the merchandise and then calling the police. the police took us back to the precinct, wrote us up. im being charged as a juvenile delinquent because im 15 and turning 16 next week. whiel my friend whos 17 is being charged as an adult. uniqlo said we would have to pay 5x the amount we stole, but when i asked the police officier, he did not say anythin about it. i have family court in 2 days, and im wonderin what sshould i be expecting. like what punishment. and also if we would have to pay 5x the amount we stole. also would this affect my future jobs or anything? your help would be appreciated. thanks.

Re: Shoplifting In NYC
The store was probably telling you to expect a civil demand, which is a fine on top of any fines or other court assessments you get as part of your sentence.
You'll probably be okay in your future career if you stop stealing, as this is a juvenile record. Your friend's record is probably going to haunt him for a long time.
