    Shoplifting, Possible Grand Theft
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Indiana
My friend and I were caught shoplifting from Kohl's on April 18. 2008. We're both seventeen and have no criminal record. The total value of the merchandise in my bag was about $570, and hers was a little over $400. I know it probably doesn't make a differense, but nearly all of the stuff in my bag was hers, and she had me carry it because there wasn't enough room in her bag. Our parents were called and we went to the police station for fingerprinting/ pictures. I'm just wondering what I can possibly do? I'm at a complete loss here and I have no idea how to get out of this. I've never been so sorry for anything in my life and I'm so upset that this will affect not only my ability to get jobs, but also to get into college. Please help me a need some serious advice.

And would I qualify for diversion?

The dollar value may place diversion off the table. However you need an Attorney talk to your Attorney as Diversion programs vary ther emay be outside chance you qualifiy but dont hold your breath

Get a criminal defense attorney. If your charged with a felony (the dollar amount will make the difference) you need one to try and get the charges reduced. Were you told that this would be done in juvenile court? Hopefully it will.

They didn't say whether or not it would be in a juvenile court, but that's what I'm hoping for.
