Embezzlement Accusation
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
where to start Loss Prevention wanted to talk with me at my place of employment about things someone might do while working there etc...needless to say they scared me into writing things that didnt happen (they said I took items and adjusted clearence items I bought ...ex...I bought a shit for 1.99 but it was supposed to be 3.49) just so I could get out of the room. They told me what to write and if I wrote it that it would be to my benifit. Also telling me that I probably wont do jail time etc...Im a single mom of two so I wrote what ever they wanted me too. I have no criminal record at all and this is my first offense. Loss prevention told me they were waiting on a phone call from corporate and next thing you know the police came and arrested me. i spent a night in jail and wasnt even read my rights! Then I was hauled into court to pled guilty or not guilt and of course I chose not guilty. They let me off on personal bond. I also stated that I would need a court appointed attorney due to lack of income.
I was released on a wednesday and didnt receive a call from the attorney so I went to the court house to see who it was so that I could call. When I got there they told me that I didnt have one on file and asked me if I filed a petition and I said no I wasnt asked too nor was I informed of that. She told me the judge was already gone and it was 12 in the afternoon to comeback monday to file and hope that he lets me do it, I would need income information etc...
My court date is this wednesday and I am scared now more than ever! Dont I have the right to an attorney? can he deny me? am I going to jail? I know I make the income requirements and the total damages that my place of employment said I caused was 217.00 They also made me sign something I didnt have time to read. It was some sort of agreement to pay them back that amount. Does that mean the court will have that paper.....I am so lost! The court only told me I was being brough up on embezzlement charges but didnt state what charges of if they had the written letter of omission or agreement from my place of employment.
I would appreciate any advice; that would be helpfull.
Thanks for your time on this matter.

Re: Embezzelment
If you do not have an Attorney by your court date do not enter a plea ask judge for public defender. He will then instruct you what to do
