Is It Possible To Change From Illegal To Legal Status?
I am a U.S. citizen. I am dating an illegal immigrant from South America. He has overstayed the tourist visa that he used to come to the U.S. legally several years ago. We don't have any plans for marriage now, but it is a possibility in the future. I am concerned about several issues. Would it be illegal for us to live together now? (could I be accused of aiding and abetting a fugitive?) If we get married, how difficult would it be to change his status from illegal to legal? What kind of fees would be involved? Is there a possibility that he could get deported in the process?
Thanks for your help!
Re: Is It Possible To Change From Illegal To Legal Status?
If he entered the U.S. legally, he should be able to adjust his status on the basis of marriage. Beyond that, I know nothing of his circumstances and cannot comment.
