Accused of Shoplifting

hi, I was accused of shoplifting an earring of $16 from JC penny,, I know i did not steal it it fell into my bag as i was holding a lot of other things. i was given a citation and want to know how it will effect my record , i have not told my family about it. i was so humiliated and embaressed, please tell me what to do...i have to pay a fine close to $300
